Kate and the team roll out the cupcake wedding dress sculpture, built and shown at a DC fashion event at the French Embassy in September 2010. An entirely edible cupcake and icing exterior was mounted on a complicated understructure consisting of chicken wire, hula hoops, a vintage silk wedding dress, and foam swimming noodles.
Kate designed the dress, creating the original sketch used in its creation as well as participating in the engineering of the dress and guiding the team toward realizing the design to mimic fabric, lace and beaded embroidery using edible materials.

I completely reconfigured the bodice of this too-small designer sample gown using the only fabric available hours before dress rehearsal-- a georgette scarf and a napkin from hotel room service.
